More shots.

Another shot that didn't go quite as planned was the shot that meant to be a rip off of Amores Perros didn't really work at all and just ended up looking pretty lame so I don't think we're going to include it in the final cut, but we might as we haven't finished yet.

We're having problems trying to end it, I think the best way to end it would be to just have the shots of Dan going to bed as it will show it's ended but we haven't decided on what we'll just yet, hopefully we will soon.

After filming

We've now finished filming and we've made a few changes to the final thing because it's too long so we're not really including much of the stuff we have at school. We had planned to have more going wrong at the school but there's just not enough space for it.

Dan and Rich are editing at the moment leaving me with out much to do.

I didn't get the opportunity to use some of the shot ideas I had because for several reasons. I didn't get to use the Jaws style draw out shot because Dan’s room is too small to have more then 1 person in which made it pretty irritating to shoot in as we had to set up the camera then just leave and hope it turned out alright.
I didn't get the opportunity to use the Fallout 3 style tracking shot for two reasons, we couldn't find anything to track and because even if we could of it wouldn't really of been possible because we didn't have the right equipment and I'm not skilled enough with a camera to pull it off.

We also completely cut Dan's girlfriend from the film because of problems with when she was free etc. so we just used Rich, although I think we're going to have to completely leave out the bad day part of that because of the lack of time left in the film and some problems with filming we've had. We did just use Rich for someone to greet him on the good day as well as someone at the door just to show that everyone likes him.

Filming so far.

So far we've done the beginning and the end of our film and I think it's gonna pretty well Dan is currently importing our video and sorting through all the bad, fuzzy and shots that are too dark. We think the that it went pretty well. On Wednesday and Thursday we are planning on filming the stuff in college.

Some of the ideas we have are Dan having coursework and because he doesn't have the bag he doesn't have it so he gets in shit for that. Also because he's late he can't help Zoe with some course work so she fails and gets all pissy.

More shot ideas

Another idea I really like although I am unsure how I could incorporate it into my film is in Amores Perros after the first hit where a business man has been shot and he falls on to the table in a expensive restaurant and his blood spreads on to a hot plate and begins to bubble.

Yet again I've been unable to find a clip on YouTube so I'll just put on of the the movie trailer.

I'm thinking we could use something similar to this, but obviously not Dan getting assassinated, the day won't be quite that bad. What I had more in mind was something along the lines of Dan spilling a drink that he's really looking forward too and watching it drip down a drain. I'd do it from ground level perhaps with only the cup in focus and the background out of focus, although I'm not too sure if this is possible on the college cameras. I'm don't think that the other people in the group would particularly like this idea, but I'm in control of the camera so I'll just piss of and set the shot up then maybe get a shot of Dan buying a drink and talking about how thirsty he is.

Other Idea's

One idea we had before Snooze was a two characters talking via the phone about how they can't meet up with each other because they are busy, which is a lie and as they are saying goodbye they walk round different corners and bump into each other.
Which then causes both of them to interact with each other then turning into an awkward conversation between them ending with a problem.

Another idea was Alex a Victorian gentlemen who some how finds his way into the present and try's to blend into modern society with the help of another victorian Glenn

Attempting to find Ideas

I'm attempting to find more ideas for a our really bad day, so I've been looking on the internet for really bad days but I'm not having too much luck at the moment, I tried looking at this website http://failblog.org/ but as amusing as it is, it's not quite what I'm looking for and we're still missing ideas for our bad day so I'll try and find something else, but I don't know what I'll find.

I think we should concentrate more on shooting that making a cohesive narrative at the moment as we don't actually get marks on how good our story is, I'll try and do some more work on shots today, and attempt to fit more of them in even if it doesn't makes perfect sense

Narrative

Looking through different narratives me , Alex, Richard and Glenn have decided that we are going to make a short film called Snooze.
Basically the idea is that pressing the snooze button on an alarm clock means the difference between a good day and a bay day throughout the film, as the film goes on it shows what happens within both good day and bad day however both good day and bad day occur on the same day but the difference is pressing the Snooze button or getting up.

Starting with the character waking up he has the choice between waking up or hitting the snooze button and sleeping for another 10 minutes, in the good day the character has a nice breakfast but on the bad day all that's left is burnt toast after this the character is going to get the bus, on the good day he gets the bus and gets invited to a party, were as on the bad day he has to walk to school and almost gets hit by a car.
We have decided not to show lesson's because it would be boring but we might show him going in and out of lessons possibly in fast forward showing time passing by throughout school

So far that is all that we have decided more information soooon

Cinematogaphor

A shot I thought I could do for the bad day where Dan realizes he's over slept is like in Jaws in the first attack but have him lying in bed and then when he realizes, we have have something like the Jaws theme tune and it does that shot.

I couldn't find this shot so I've got the trailer for Jaws and I'll add it at a later date.

Another Idea I had was too having something headed towards Dan that will hit him like a snow ball or some mud or something like that kinda like at the end of this video where the camera follows the mini nuke to it's target except obviously not with a mini nuke. Whether or not the technology we have will allow us to do it or not is a question I need to ask.

I intend to repeat the exact same shots as close as possible on both the good and the bad day to show how they're very similar they are and how there was so little differences between the actual things that happened on those days.

I did have more ideas for shots to use but I don't appear to have saved them so I've got to try and remeber them.

At key turning points in the short I intend to use extreme close up of Dans face and hopefully have very different facial expression but on the same back ground and everything else the same so it looks.

Richard- Sound/Director

I am Richard, and for this film project I will be taking the role of sound and director.
The films that have influenced me in my job as sound/director are...

The sound is this opening for Pineapple Express is interesting. In the car it is diegetic sound, however when he leaves the car to give someone a subpoena the music previously on the car radio switches to non-diegetic sound and is played even when Dale is not in the car.

Also the choice of song is very good for this opening in the film. The songs lyrics are very fitting for this film as it says "take it higher" as the film partially focuses on smoking marijuana. Also as it is a song of few lyrics, the lyrics do not overshadow the dialogue, this is very effective as in addition to, I feel the sound editor has got the sound balance right. Unlike some films where sometimes the soundtrack is too loud and drowns out the dialogue or evenly worse the soundtrack may be too low to hear and appreciate.

Dan the Editor

Hi I am Dan and I will be editing our four minute film with Rich and Alex, in our previous projects I was the director.
Films and other texts that have inspired me are as followed;
Terry Tate Office Linebacker because of the fast paced cuts within the short film giving the normal basics of a film in the way that different area's and characters in the film can be put together in making a film without special editing and effects.

A completely different type of editing which has more of a high-tech editing requirement are montages, Montages use alot of editing to keep the audience interested in their short clips put together, this montage chosen is done by an expensive editing software. Within the montage "Like Butter" Uses different effects in his montage for example Speeding up and Slowing down footage, as well as changing the colour in the footage.

I am interested in the editing in this because of the amount of transitions within the montage that you would think it wouldn't fit, that it would just be clip then transition with another clip after but it all flows into each other and fits so well that you don't pay much attention to the transitions they are just natural in the montage.

Television shows such as 24 use editing very well, for example in this trailer of 24 it contains simple cuts as well as more high-tech transitions, I really like the way that the on screen text comes from within the footage and fits very well, the footage has fast paced cuts from clip to clip creating audience interest.

Music video's also interest me in editing, I like this music video because it has been done really we'll within the mise-en-scene as well as editing for example Mc Lars changed cloth's when he raps about different games also he has duplicated himself at least three times in a frame which is what we are planning on doing in our short film.
Also in his music video Mc Lars uses unrealistic editing in it for example childish blood coming out of the patient.

Straight UP
